Catch a Glimpse

On Saturday, January 22, 2012 my boyfriend, Dillan Kenny, and I had one special day to be with each other. We live four hours apart and haven't gone a day without talking since we met. When we see each other, there are always fantastic memories. Dillan and I are long distance so any time we get to spend with each other is special.

We had a wonderful breakfast and played backgammon. Dillan won, he was excited. Later we rode our skateboard and bike down to Pismo Beach. He is quite blessed living about 5 blocks from the water. As soon as we made it to the water and he saw the waves, I knew we were headed back home for him to change into his wetsuit. I was all smiley because in the 6 months we've been together I have not seen him surf yet.

I got to stand on the pier and really watch how he picks and chooses the waves, while watching him do something he loves. He had a seal friend that wasn't too far away that caught some waves himself as well. The one time I yelled out to him in the water, "good job Dill" he looked at me, smiled, and we each made a heart with our hands. Cheesy, maybe a little, but I love that about us.

Feathers and Feelings

I had the pleasure of photographing my younger brother, Zach Reidinger, and his girlfriend, Heather Simmons in their beautiful Homecoming attire at Montbury Park and Serrano Creek Park in Lake Forest, Calif., on Saturday, October 22, 2011. We started out shooting the classic; hold your date photos with the group at Montbury then took our own little adventure. They have already been to three other dances together, so instead of them getting their picture taken at school in front of the green screen, we went to Serrano Creek Park just the three of us. I wanted the photos to feel more natural and less posed. I let them be around the park and throughout the playground and captured the intimate and sweet moments between the two of them.

While taking photos a young about 5 year old girl wearing all pink plus a tutu was with her younger brother just playing on the playground. In a matter of minutes this young girl was completely focused on what we were doing. She picked up on my brothers' name and kept saying, "Zach, Zach, Zach, What's her name? What are you doing? etc. but in a cute way! She kept the great mood and fun going.

At one point the brother and sister were at the top of a very tall manmade rock. The little boy was terrified to come down. Zach walked over to the boy and talked him through being brave and helped him down safely. As an older sister seeing this all unfold was amazing. I am so proud of him and I think he has a future career working with kids.

Heather did a fantastic job sucking up the pain from her fashion forward killer heels. Zach managed to carry her a couple of times. The two of them together bring so much fun, blessings, and romance its contagious and admirable. I really enjoyed spending a couple hours with them. The pictures below are what the classic quote "to be young and in love" represent.

This session has been quite crazy, in terms of how often I have been shooting. More opportunities to shoot = more opportunities to love what I'm doing and create beautiful photos. I was the on set photographer, "EPK" for Tamar Tami Sasson's music video, "She's My Drug" by singer Bryan Lay. The filming took place at the Castellaw House in Hidden Hills, Calif. on Saturday, October 8, 2011.

Bringing a film crew into an incredibly beautiful home was not easy. We all had to be extra careful with our equipment. We all worked well together and had fun. After a 12 hour day of shooting and traveling I was pleased with the images I produced. Enjoying one of my last sessions on set with a crew of fellow filmmakers I have grown with for the past 3 years was fantastic.

Reborn

I had the pleasure to meet a wonderful girl such as Jenna Bair on the Lake Trip to Nacimiento with Reality church about 2 weeks ago. It was amazing how much one weekend with God and children of God can really make a difference and huge impact in your life.

Jenna Bair was one of the women who helped me along my own journey. I was honored and so blessed to have met her. Then I was able to be a part of her baptism at our friends house, Kristen Nordella, in Santa Rosa Valley on August 31, 2011 where she was able to recommit her life to our loving and indescribable Father, Jesus Christ. It was a celebration between her family and over 10 girls all supporting her life changing experience.

My sweetest moment was the hug between her brother, Scott Bair, and herself right after she came back up from the water. Their relationship was already close, but I could tell with that one breathe it became that much stronger. I was very proud of her and moved that she wanted her friends and family all to be a part of her special moment.

Congratulations Jenna!!! I am so proud to be a sister of yours in Christ.

My friend, Tamar Tami Sasson, blessed me on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 who took me on a crazy spontaneous trip to San Diego on Monday after speaking on the phone with her at 11pm the previous night. We stayed the night at my parents house in Lake Forest, Calif., where I then had the privilege of calling my childhood nanny, Gladys Ossa, who is now a large parental figure in my life to bring over her granddaughter, Nylah O. Freeman. I was able to meet her for the first time along with Tamar Tami Sasson, my mother Debbie Reidinger, my brother Zach Reidinger, and his girlfriend Heather Simmons.

It was a beautiful morning full of love and laughter. Nylah is such a little sweetheart and a beautiful baby girl. I am so blessed to be apart of many wonderful families including the Ossa, Freeman, and Palacios clan.

Nylah may God bless you and your family with many more birthdays to come.

Prayer Beads

It is 4th of July everybody! I had a splendid day cruising at the 4th of July Ventura Street Fair.

A couple of months ago I was able to photograph Tomi Ito Levin and her Japanese calligraphy art for an assignment. I had the pleasure of enjoying the rest of my afternoon at her house with her friends and family members. Later in the evening the group gathered around the gohonzon and began chanting together. This was a first time experience for me to witness this. A beginning Buddhist member, Mitchell Viquez was closely reading the prayer book as it was tough to keep up with the rest of the group, but he seemed to do a good job from my perspective. Jane Crook, Buddhist member helped him here and there throughout the group chant. Viewing a group of people chant together was new and unexpected to me but made me glad that I am able to continue growing in knowledge with every kind of experience I have.

Audrey Rene Cueto, 1, daughter to my long time friend, Michael Cueto, is a burst of light, joy, and love. I had the pleasure of spending time with her and the Cueto family during my summer break from Brooks Institute on Thursday, June 30, 2011. I was stunned by her ability to retain information and her spectacular love for life, which shows through her desire to make friends. This little girl brought happiness to my life and I look forward to where her future will take her. I also wanted to thank the Cueto's for their hospitality and always large amount of laughs. It was a pleasure reuniting after some years and I wish their entire family much love and God's grace.

Zach HS Graduation Party

On Saturday, June 25, 2011 my family and I had a high school graduation party for my younger brother, Zach Reidinger, at our parent's house in Lake Forest, Calif. Zach was accompanied by many of his friends and family to celebrate a lot of hard work, laughter, and memories he shared during his childhood. He is about to embark on the next chapter, college in August 2011 at California State University Fullerton.

I am so very proud of my brother and the man that he has become. I hope that we will be able to continue our friendship throughout our lives and I want him to know that I love him dearly and wish the absolute best for him. If you ever need anything little bro, please call or visit me ANYTIME!

ETHS Senior Graduation

You only can attend your only sibling's high school graduation once. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of enjoying the graduation ceremony for my younger brother, Zach Reidinger, at the Bren Center in Brea, Calif., on Tuesday, June 21, 2011.

It was a long but heartfelt ceremony and I was so proud as I watched him walk down the steps after receiving his diploma from my and his previous principal Dr. Allen Mucerino. I am a very proud older sister!

Brooks Institute Summer Graduation

One of the downfalls of going to Brooks Institute is that friends continue to graduate every two months. Many of them graduated yesterday, Sunday, June 19, 2011 at the Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara, Calif., from the Professional Photography Program, Film & Video Production Program, and the Visual Journalism Program.

I will be graduating in December. Attending the ceremony was a great little kick to the excitement and stress I will shortly be receiving for my own graduation. One of the student speakers stated, "The tassel was worth the hassle." I think this is a great statement. My best friend Tamar Sasson and I laughed and applauded because it is true. I will miss all of the friends I made but I know that in my industry it will be rare never to see them again. I hope we will all be working together in the future!

I had the pleasure of living in Santa Barbara, Calif., for 1 1/2 years beginning in 2008. I commuted to Ventura, Calif., almost every other day to attend my classes at Brooks Institute. During this drive I always had time to think, reflect, listen to music, sing as loud as I could in the car, or catch up with loved ones through my car phone. As much as the commute was difficult, I could not ask for a more beautiful drive along the Pacific Coast. I moved to Ventura a little over a year ago, only because I couldn't afford gas and the obscene rent in Santa Barbara anymore. I still try to take a GE in Santa Barbara if it works with my schedule. This session I am taking a Business and Communications class late at night in Santa Barbara on Tuesdays and Fridays.

On May 31, 2011 while I was driving home from class my mind was filled with stress, anxiety, heartache, and I realized I was overwhelmed. I decided to pull over to my favorite beach, Santa Claus Lane in Carpinteria. I found this beach after pulling over spontaneously about a year ago.

Attending Brooks Institute, we are always on the go, leaving a limited amount of time to relax and have fun. I wanted to use my camera for fun instead of a project. I setup during what was left of a sunset and began taking long exposures of myself dancing.

My strength and flexibility isn't nearly where it was 4 years ago, but I still fall back in love every time I dig deep inside and dance from my heart. It is part of who I am and I want to strongly thank my parents for giving me the privilege to take dance classes just about every day after school.

After I finished the shoot, I packed my stuff up and began driving home. As I was putting my car in reverse I noticed I had forgotten my glasses……in the sand somewhere. Could you imagine trying to find a small object on the beach with one tiny flashlight in the night sky? I had to call my very amazing friends, Gina Valenti and Brianne Griebler, who lived down the street, for some help. After about an hour of searching and a very strong prayer I found my glasses. What a night!

Filming at the Horse Rescue

Working with the horses at the California Coastal Horse Rescue has been phenomenal. I have learned so much and it has been quite an experience. Hanging out with the volunteers, the horses, doing a lot of physical labor, and being in the sun has done well with me during this documentary.

Adri Howe and Cheyenne, the horse she has been working with, are quite an incredible duo. There have been a few moments that have blown my mind away. Cheyenne was abused with objects prior to arriving at the ranch. After about one year of work with Adri she has come along way. When I came into the stall with a tripod and camera, Cheyenne was a little nervous. His curiosity and trust in Adri and myself created a turning point in his progression and I was stunned at the transformation I saw in just a couple of days. Cheyenne became very comfortable with me. I love that God gave me a gift of being able to work with animals well.

"Casey" My Chevy Malibu

After a very long day of shooting at the Horse Rescue in Ojai, Calif., on May 14, 2011, I followed my friend, Bert Beltran, to Lake Casitas so that he could have a photo shoot with my beautiful 2008 Chevy Malibu aka Casey.

His assignment was to take photos parallel to the horizon while the sun was setting. Bert used a few tricks he was taught in class on how to make my car shine as well as appear lower to the ground. We piled a bunch of sandbags along the floor and seats on the drivers’ side. A neat little trick I found interesting. I felt honored that Bert asked to use my car to be photographed. After all, I am proud to say that I purchased this car with my own money after graduating high school.

Forever Be Remembered-Seattle!

On our last day in Seattle, Washington on Monday, May 2, 2011 we heard of the news that was music to the ears of most Americans. On May 1, 2011 Osama Bin Laden was officially pronounced dead.

Before we left the hotel we stayed at, Hotel Monaco, I had to take a picture of our beloved pet goldfish, Angie. She was so good to us and brought much excitement to our hotel room those few nights.

Both Bin Laden and Angie will forever be remembered.

In the Midst-Seattle!

On May 1, 2011 I began another adventure in Seattle, Washington with my friends. Blake Buchanan and I got to roam around the city with the tulip I got at Pike's Place earlier in the afternoon. We walked quite a few miles and decided to rest on the lawn near the Space Needle. We listened to the cars go by and even a duck graced us with his/her presence. In the midst of spontaneity we had a nice and relaxing conversation. At which point he raised up my tulip, looked inside as he was pondering and I took a snapshot.

Later on that evening we were walking back to meet up with the rest of the clan and I noticed the cherry trees above me. The streetlights were glowing through the leaves, which gave me a picturesque photo.

It is nice to notice the beauty in still life in the midst of an on-going life that never seems to slow down. I love bringing along my camera and capturing moments and scenery such as these.

By Day By Night-Seattle!

Talk about one epic day! Seattle continues to get better and better. April 30, 2011 is the reason our whole North West road trip was planned for. My friends, Tamar Tami Sasson, Sean Broadbent, and Robert Woodward, were crewmembers that filmed a music video of the band, Break of Reality to the song Spectrum of the Sky. The video had been submitted, accepted and was shown on the big screen in Seattle, Washington as a part of the music video category in the Film Festival NFFTY. Myself and a few other friends came along for the road trip and to support the film crew who shot Spectrum of the Sky.

It was great getting to be a part of the festival and enjoy other student filmmakers’ work. To celebrate, our friends and family took enjoyed each other’s company and took many photos together at the top of the Space Needle.

Marty Sasson, Tamar’s father, took Tamar and myself out for dinner that night! I was able to enjoy delicious food along with some red wine. It was a splendid meal and I had the pleasure of getting to know Tamar's father on a more personal level.

Afterward Tamar and I met up with a local friend who gave us a tour of the nightlife in Seattle. We ended up at a gay nightclub in Capitol Hill, Neighbours. This was the first gay club or bar I have ever set foot in. We had a ridiculous amount of energy, which led to a large amount of fun!

All in all, Seattle has been great thus far. Spending time with some of my best friends in a new city, learning more about our industry, and making memories is the kind of vacation I definitely enjoy.

Two nights ago, after a long car drive to Seattle in a Prius with three other boys, myself, Tamar Sasson, Blake Buchanan, Sean Broadbent, and Aaron Eberhardt all attended the opening to the NFFTY film festival. We had a wonderful night exploring. I was a bit tired the following morning and decided to sleep in while the others attended a film. Once I woke up I got dressed and explored the beautiful and exciting city of Seattle. I was inspired in all directions with the people, vibrancy, feeling of a new city, and all the hills. This is my young adult life and I am enjoying every moment that I have. Being able to drive up here on a road trip with friends was wonderful even though we were quite tight in the car.

I am looking forward to all of the memories I will have during the rest of my road trip along the West Coast.

Gravitational Force

I enjoyed another day of dance with Kaita Lepore at the University of California Santa Barbara inside the College of Creative Studios on March 31, 2011 where she and her partners Steven Jasso and Anaya Cullen performed a multidisciplinary piece incorporating dance, visualization, technology, video, and generated sound multi-sensory, interactive visual and aural production called Gravitational Force. Marco Pinter is the creator and director of this work, which explores technology as a medium for artistic expression through new media and dance by creating real-time multi-sensory experiences.

I was dancing alongside the dancers while shooting during their run-throughs prior to their performance later that evening. It was a blast moving with them and feeling their energy come alive through this strong and unique piece. Marco Pinter asked me to que the lights throughout the production and I was honored to have been a help to the production.

More and more I realize how much of an influence dance has played in my life! It is apart of me and being able to relate to these artists helps me realize this is what I want to continue to shoot. The stories and inspiration I receive is amazing. I am looking forward in continuing to build my dance portfolio. I want to thank Marco Pinter and the dancers for their hard-work, talents, and creativity because pictures are not the same without the passion behind them.

NECTAR Performance March 2011

On March 19, 2011 I shot another night with Kaita Lepore, my current photo subject. Tonight it was the first performance I have shot of her with an audience. It all took place at Yoga Soup in Santa Barbara, Calif., where she actually also teaches yoga. Tonight it was all about the performance for the show NECTAR. Creative ideas and performances come together for one lovable and unforgettable night. I loved the fact that as soon as I walked in from the pouring rain I was asked to take off my shoes. Most performances I am used to seeing is on stage while there is an audience seated by rows. This was altogether different because the audience and performers were all on the same floor. The audience just brought yoga mats and blankets to sit on. It was such a warm and fantastic environment.

Being backstage was also more relaxed and chill. People were not terrified they were going to mess up and they were just stretching in the tiny room as they pleased. They undressed quickly with everyone around to change into their following costumes. Being around dancers all my life I am used to it. On one occasion a woman came in and ripped off her shirt to change real fast not knowing there was a guest male in the room. She never even noticed him, but I did. His facial expression of being shocked was quite funny.

Watching the girls perform after being with them during rehearsal was rewarding and they did a fabulous job. It was my first time shooting backstage for any type of performance and I really enjoyed trying to find the photos in a crammed and emotion full environment!

Japanese Calligraphy with Tomi

I had the pleasure to shoot a portrait of any type of artist. My fascination with Japanese Calligraphy and through my friend, Tamar Tami Sasson, I was able to find Tomi Ito Levin. We did a portrait shoot inside her art studio behind her home in Oxnard, Calif., on Friday, March 18, 2011.

She specializes in materials for Japanese calligraphy, sumie, and watercolor for students and professional artists. On top of her Japanese calligraphy, she is a woman of many talents who plays the Taishokoto and also sings along, she also creates origami, seal carving, and papermaking. A sweet random fact about her is her love for her 9-year-old pet bird, Boddai, who is an Indian Ringneck. She spends some of her relaxing or casual time teaching him how to speak phrases such as “nice to meet you.” Levin and her bird are both Buddhist and chant Nam Myoho Renge Kyo together.

Tomi has a vibrant and full of life personality that rubs off on everyone that meets her. She even let myself and my assistant, Rob Castillo, each keep one of the Japanese calligraphy pieces she created during the shoot. I had a wonderful session with Tomi and wish her all the best.

Moonlit Model

I have been assisting Kevin Steele for a few shoots now. This particular shoot was on March 17, 2011 in Santa Barbara, Calif., at Mesa Lane Beach. In between shining a flashlight on Kaita's face in order for Kevin to focas and running to Kaita to throw a blanket over her and keep her warm, I grabbed my camera and took a quick snapshot. This shoot was a few days after the tsunami hit Japan. I was a little nervous about being that close to the ocean after all the devastation. Kaita was a great sport allowing the cold water to pass by and on her ankles while holding her pose for up to 30 seconds at a time. The girl was only wearing a white leotard, so I am sure she was pretty cold. Once the shoot was over, we packed up, and hiked 250 steps back to the top. It was a night full of fun and adventure.

Make-Up and Warm Up

I have begun shooting my next subject, Kaita Lepore. She is a sweet, intelligent, and artistic woman. She teaches pilates and yoga. She is also a dancer and has found that she sincerely loves dancing in general.

I have already had a splendid time working with her and I just wanted to share a few images from my first shoot with her on Sunday, March 14, 2011. The girls were getting their make-up and hair done while warming up in Santa Barbara, Calif., inside a dance studio at Robin Bisio's house, their choreoographer. They met at 8AM to get prepared before heading to Mesa Lane Beach in Santa Barbara, Calif., for a film shoot involving the girls dancing in their tutus.

On a side note, it has been so incredible for me to be around dancers again. During my photography career the only void in my life is my dance. Being around the girls, the studios, tutus, make-up, and music has brought me to a happier place.

I am so glad that I have found a dancer as wonderful as Kaita.

Picnic at Galapagos

I got a wonderful sunburn on my shoulders during this shoot, but it was all worth it. A beautiful display of three Santa Barbara modern/contemporary dancers on Mesa Lane Beach wearing costumes created by Anaya Cullen. The energy was high and I had a great time shooting while splashing my feet in the water every once in awhile.

Yoga Soup

After a long morning of shooting Kaita getting her make-up done and then dancing on the beach she then taught a workshop at Yoga Soup in Santa Barbara, Calif. to teach a beginner level yoga class. I actually hadn't slept the day before because I prepped for the shoot and got a whole bunch of stuff done so I would have a clear mind going into the shoots with Kaita. By the time 3pm hit and I had been with her since 8am it was time to go get some food, download some photos, and relax for a little while. It was a fantastic first day with Kaita!

Angie's First Baby Shower

I am going to be an aunt!

Wow this is exciting. My nanny, Gladys Ossa, who has been the other parental figure in my life, her oldest daughter, Angelica Freeman, is having her first daughter, Nylah. I was so lucky that my break week did not collide with the baby shower on Sunday, February 27, 2011 in Costa Mesa, Calif.

Angie looked absolutely beautiful and glowing from ear to ear. I love you very much Angie and I am so excited for you! We all enjoyed games, great food, family bonding, and guessing the date in which Nylah will be born. My good friend, Rob Castillo and my mom, Debbie Reidinger, joined me for this special occasion. I am looking forward to being an auntie and to the memories her and I will share one day.

Over the Hill at 21 years old

During my Winter break from my strenuous workload at Brooks Institute I was able to visit one of my best friends, Avery Downs, who I have known since 1st grade. Her parents decided to celebrate her 21st birthday at their home in Laguna Hills, Calif., on Friday, January 7, 2011 with all of her friends from throughout her life. The theme was "Over the Hill," and if attending the party the guests needed to come dressed as senior citizens. As quoted from the invitation,

"Walkers, canes, wise words, sweater vests, red lipstick, leisurely dance moves, spectacles, shoulder pads, sweat suits, dentures, bingo cards, etc, are all happily welcome! We truly admire the elderly and find old age to be beautiful so why not pretend for one night? In fact, old age is something we are all going to have to learn to embrace."

I had a blast dressing up in my senior citizen attire, walking as if I was in my 90s and laying some old school dance moves behind along with these wonderful people. Age is just a number, but individual moments we cherish make the time spent worth the years invested.

I want to send Avery tons of love as she prepares to study abroad in Paris starting January 23, 2011 for 4 months. I know she will grow up even more as her journey through life continues and her laid back, adventurous, and gentle attitude will take her far in life. I only look forward to the memories we will continue to have together and will expect nothing less than a successful and fulfilling life.

El Toro Chargers Boys Soccer

I am an alumni from El Toro High School in Lake Forest, Calif., and during my winter break had the opportunity to shoot some sports for fun and practice. I shot a total of 3 games and was disappointed as the rest of the El Toro fans were when losing all 3 games. They never lacked in bringing a fight to their opponents, but a lack in strategy from their head coach, while switching up the regular positions of his players resulted in their losses. I give the El Toro boys soccer team my best in getting their team back together to brings some wins to the rest of their season.

Reuniting College Students Celebrate New Years Eve

A classic college students' New Years Eve party took place on December 31, 2010 in Lake Forest, Calif., and I spent my night photographing the stages of a college students emotional journey with alcohol. The highs of seeing friends, getting the munchies, feeling the sparks of a crush, and holding on to those you feel will never let you down. Life as a college student has its ups and downs. During this night it seemed like it was all good times for the reuniting friends who graduated from El Toro High School to celebrate their new year.

Sean Atcheson and I decided to make a day trip out to Big Bear to finally get our boards on the mountain after figuring out that our parents live within 30 minutes of each other. This was the first time I had ever skied or snowboarded during the night time and I absolutely loved it. I know I will continue hitting boxes, slopes, and lifts during the night because the experience is breathtaking. We took this trip during our Winter Break from Brooks Institute on Tuesday, December 28, 2010.

I was given an assignment to do a portrait series on whatever I wanted. Always having such a wide range of friends and realizing that I have less than a year in school, I decided to shoot images of my friends jumping on a trampoline. It is fun, it is quirky, it is silly, and it is playful. I wanted to make a video to remember some of the great times I have had with these wonderful people who have changed my life. Thank you to everyone who helped out and I look forward to all of the memories we still have to share.
